Boyertown Soccer Club History

The Boyertown Soccer Club was founded in 1975 by Ralph Talarico, Tom Gray, Bernice Gray, Helmut Esz and a few others with the finacial assistance of the Boyertown Jaycees.  In that first year the club started out with only one boy's travel team.  Since that time our travel program has grown to include travel teams for both boys and girls in most age groups.  Our teams have played in the Reading Berks, Philadelphia (PAGS Girl's only) Delco (boy's only), Lehigh Valley, Inter County, and Upper Bucks.  We even had one team compete in the Washington (WAGS girl's only) league. Our travel teams have attended and represented Boyertown in tournaments all over the state of Pennsylvania as well as Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.

Since that first year the club has grown to include a large intramural program that provides a place for children from 5 to 17 years old to play soccer locally. In 2003, with the help of Kevin Reilly, the Boyertown Soccer Club was able to start a TOPS Soccer program. This program provides a place to play soccer for special needs children at no cost to the parent.

Currently our Travel teams play in the Inter County, Philadelphia Area Girls and Delco leagues. Our Intramural program offers an inhouse program for children 5 to 9 years old. Older children 10 years and up play in the Suburban County League which is a local coed recreational league.

Boyertown Soccer Club : US National Team

There is a direct link between Boyertown Soccer Club and the Women's United States National Team, and her name is Nicole Barnhart.  Nicole is a Gilbertsville native who played for Boyertown Soccer Club boy's travel team until her U14 season 1995. She went on to play for the Souderton Soccer club for about a year, then played for FC Delco. She played for the High School boy's team from 1997 to 2000. During her senior year she was the starting keeper on the boy's varsity squad. Since graduating from High School, Nicole not only enjoyed a wonderful education from Stanford University, but she has also enjoyed great on-field experiences as a Goalkeeper with the US Women's National Team, including a Gold Medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China.
